Breakfast and Lunch
Universal Free Breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it gives you energy for your day ahead. If your child doesn't have much of an appetite before leaving for school, take advantage of our universal free breakfast program. It's available daily from 7:45am to 8:10am in the lunchroom. Please make sure children arrive by 7:50am to allow enough time to eat and clean up. After children finish eating, they may join their friends in the schoolyard until the bell rings. To view the breakfast menu, please visit NYCDOE School Food. No pork products are served at breakfast. Bacon and sausage are made from turkey.
Free School Lunch
Our kitchen staff members prepare many recipes from scratch, including coleslaw with vinaigrette, tomato sauce for pasta or chili, hummus, three-bean salad and more. All food is steamed, baked, roasted or stir-fried. Our fresh salad bar, available daily, is stocked with fresh romaine lettuce, cucumber slices, tomatoes, celery sticks, red and green peppers, and other crunchy delights. Only low-fat salad dressings and no-fat or low-fat milk are available. We proudly use fresh parsley, chives and other herbs from our rooftop greenhouse garden.
The lunchroom has a nut-free table, where students with a nut-allergy may sit with an invited friend, as long as the friend’s lunch is nut-free. If your child has a nut allergy, please speak with the classroom teacher.

Opening an Online
The site MySchoolBucks makes school meal payments easy. It is a quick and secure way to add money to your student’s school lunch account. My School Bucks will send you alerts when your child’s balance is low. Alternatively, you may pay for school lunch with a personal check, please make the check to PS 6 General Fund and bring it to the Main Office.
Sometimes children go through the lunch line without their parents' knowledge. This is likely to happen if the child forgot lunch from home or prefers a hot lunch offering on a particular day. Children without money in their lunch account will incur a negative balance. You will be notified immediately so you can send in your payment. We encourage you to open an online account to avoid negative balances.
We have three different lunch periods. The table below shows the time when each grade eats lunch and has outdoor recess.
Pre- K has lunch in their classrooms. They have recess twice a day- once in the morning and once in the afternoon.
